How is the gel similar to hydration crystals?

It’s kind of brilliant! The hydration crystals that you buy from your local hardware store are alike the gel within the packs. Both work to actively absorb and retain water by creating Hydrophobic soil, so that your favourite plants can quench their thirst even when you skip a day of watering.

The addition of ice pack gel to your garden will see a real improvement in the foliage growth and general health of your plants as the water is less likely to evaporate away or drip down. It makes for the perfect gardening pal, particularly with water resistant soil conditions in Victoria.

How do you add the gel to your garden?

To use the gel packs in your garden you’ll need to start by cutting open the pack and squeezing out the gel on the inside. For an extra environmental hand, be sure to rinse the empty pocket and drop it at your nearest recycling centre.

Ensure that the gel is added through the preparation stage of gardening as you’ll need to prepare the soil properly for efficient planting.

Pour the gel that you’ve collected into the dug up soil at a gel to soil ratio of 4:1.

After adding the gel to the soil mix, take your garden tool to gently dig the gel a little into the soil surface. From this point, it’s time to get planting! Happy gardening!
